Try being a woman

My friend asked me why all women can't look like that; pointing at a young mother. Now, before I answer that question I have a question for men that breath down our neck about working out to remain 'shapy'. How many times have you worked out this year? Even when you make out time and plan to hit the gym how many times have you stuck to the plan? If you can't answer that then how do you want a woman with a 2month old baby that goes to work and has two older kids to cater for and a husband that wants sex almost all the time to have time for herself? First i'll educate you on the amount of hormonal menace that flog our bodies even when we ain't pregnant. As early as age nine for some, and later in their teens for others, our bodies exhibit the first major development from girl hood to womanhood, and the bloody mess begins.
It comes with various types of discomfort for different girls called premenstrual syndrome or tension, for example: acne, cramps, tender sore breasts, bloated stomachs and headaches. Some girls have painful cramps in their stomachs, headaches, mood swings, or cravings for certain foods right before their periods begin. Sometimes the body may retain water, which can make a girl feel puffy and bloated. Rings and shoes may feel tight. The body comes back to normal soon after and before you know it the circle starts again. Yes we go through unimaginable things.
About pregnancy, I have never been pregnant but from what I've been told and judging from what our body's go through even when we ain't pregnant I would liken pregnancy to an illness. A good sickness though. Imagine another human being growing inside your bloated tommy and feeding from you, being sustained by the air you breath, that's a lot of work. Some women even appear to grow taller during pregnancy, some voices change, some are completely different. How does your body now retract and recover from this after 9months? Even when the baby comes we still have to eat a lot whether we like it or not because the baby still feeds from us through breast feeding. A nursing mother can never be on any form of weight loosing diet or else she plans self sabotage. Now, how on earth are we supposed to remain thin? Or look the same way we did when we were eighteen? Getting fat, Not being able to wear a sexy bikini to the beach is one of the many sacrifices we make for being your wives and your baby mama. You might say the celebs on E look great right after pregnancy and while nursing but don't forget that those women have the financial means to look 18 forever. I'm talking surgeries, botox and all that. Plus they also make huge sacrifices to remain tv goddess e.g no breastfeeding. Some women are lucky to remain perfectly in shape after all these without any effort but not everyone is that lucky. Yeah, these are unfortunate experiences which cause embarrassment and threaten our self-esteem. Yet, no girl grows up wanting to avoid this mess, because it is a sign of good health, maturity, fulfilment and responsibility. We still prepare ourselves for relationships with men, for becoming wives and mothers, for finding and pursuing our career path. We embrace our progress and improve our usefulness. We laugh and spread joy regardless of their situation, because it is also the nature of womanhood to care for others, despite personal discomfort.
I know what you all brothers are thinking right now; that I'm just trying to make excuses for the shrud way women look after child birth. Your Damn right sweetie! That's exactly what I'm doing. Biko, cut us some slack and understand that womanhood no be beans! Having kids takes a lot from our bodies. Women don't have it easy.

  1. Seriously i've learnt some times to just excuse women. If you know a little about the menstrual cycle and the hormones that kick in and out,you will excuse them a lot. Well done. Lovely piece.
